abscess: a poem
An ever-smiling puppeteerless marionette
slipping timelessly decade upon decade
through the packed away rough toy chest
a silver key tossed aside
among a myriad of nearly identical
similarly-tarnished junk in a squeaky desk drawer
a worn handkerchief with fading embroidery
pulled from the pocket of a dapper suit
discarded at the dry cleaners
a chafed and broken lip gloss tube
silhouetted against the jewelry box’s
scratched prismatic mirror lid
an ennui that knows no terminus
an empathy stuck on repeat
a silken thread of prolonged ecstasy
