Jocilyn’s Top 50 Rated Teas

The ranking I’ve concocted for this list is based first on average composite score (if it was reviewed recently enough) and then by percent satisfaction (I began those in March). Although there are a great many deserving teas I reviewed earlier on, I didn’t include them since I wasn’t handing out numeric scoring (and my memory just isn’t that great). You can definitely be assured if it received a 90% or higher, you’ll love it. If it’s ranked in the top 10, it will be a challenge to find its equal. If it doesn’t have a hyperlink, I’ve reviewed the tea but it’s yet to be posted to the blog.

It turns out at this point the formalized rating system hasn’t been around long enough and I can only pull together a top 50 instead of a top 100. I guess give me a couple more months and we’ll revisit things.

The the top six spots go one to each style of tea (tisane not included), and then the rest are descending by score.

I’m giving an honorary title award of “Tea Master” to the vendor with the overall most representation among the spread. Drum roll?

Whatever. I’m proud to announce that Eli Tea takes the Tea Master award this time around by a landslide win of 10 teas featured in my top 50. Of those, Eli took the uppermost ranked spots for both White and Green, and grabbed four of the top ten rated teas, and six of the top twenty. Eli’s level of consistency for offering show-stopping teas is just unrivaled.

Obviously for this blog, I pay way more attention to Green teas than other styles. All told I actually scored 21 separate Green teas since March. That being said, Eli’s Gyokuro not only achieved the highest possible rank for this challenge, but I’d actually cut it off at the heels by giving it a 2 percentage point handicap from 99/100 to 97/100 so as to be fair (in that i reviewed it before i had the full scoring method worked out and was comparing features mostly in my head). Despite being a company that’s yet to celebrate its first birthday, Eli has completely shut out the competition. Well done, sir!
